Nintendo is best known for the creation of the legendary character "Mario", who has since appeared in dozens of games from classic jump-and-run to car racing or the sports genre. Most remarkable about Nintendo, though, is their ability to produce almost completely flawless games that usually rank at the top of their genre. No other company has such a record of successful games over such a long time.

Often, Nintendo's consoles are mocked as "kiddy consoles", because the heart of their games usually consist of comic characters such as Mario, Bowser or Princess Toadstool and the storylines are also more like fairytales. Nevertheless, Nintendo has been able to outrank their competitors by clever gameplay, unique level design and meticulously crafted games.

With the introduction of the Wii Nintendo introduced a revolutionary concept for controlling games. While Microsoft and Sony basically changed nothing about their controllers in the XBOX 360 and the PS3, respectively, apart from getting rid of the controller cable in favor of a wireless connection, Nintendo presented a controller that lets the player control games by moving the remote like a wand, steering wheel, tennis racket or baseball bat - depending on what game you're playing.

While their competitors are battling for the best 3D graphics, Nintendo has, once again, upped the ante as far as gameplay is concerned. After all, what good are spectacular graphics if gameplay is the, let's face it, same ol', same ol'? Bottom line, what counts is how much fun playing a console game is. And in that department Nintendo is the clear winner.
